Moving surplus up the food waste hierarchy.

How we’ve helped

A leading breakfast cereal manufacturer wanted to more closely align the redistribution of its surplus products to the food waste hierarchy. The goal was to move it up the hierarchy and ensure it was captured for human consumption and not animal feed. To do so, they needed support to embed new processes.

Even the most efficient production lines can still create surplus, and our expert team worked alongside the manufacturer to undertake a full audit of its production lines and assessment of its waste streams to identify where surplus was occurring.

The process included:

  • Mapping the production process

  • Adapt existing procedures to efficiently capture the surplus in the simplest way

  • Managing all logistics, transporting products to our processing centre

  • Processing, bagging and weighting product to create new format product to be sold in Company Shop and Community Shop store.
