The store will be coming to Campana House on Hawkeswood Road, SO18 1AB. With heavily discounted food and household products that are on average around 50% off the normal retail price, Company Shop Southampton will help to stretch the family budgets of thousands across Southampton and beyond, whilst simultaneously tackling the challenge of surplus food and product waste.
The new, first-of-its-kind for Southampton store is part of the UK’s leading surplus redistribution organisation, Company Shop Group, which works with all the major retailers, manufacturers and brands across the UK to redistribute surplus food and household products, including Ocado, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer, Nestlé, Greencore, Iceland and Tesco.
All the products sold within the store are in date and perfectly good to eat or use, but are deemed ‘surplus’ and may have otherwise gone to waste due to incorrect or wonky labelling, seasonal packaging or overstock – amongst many other reasons.
Membership is open to almost all key workers, including those working in the NHS, social care, emergency services, FMCG supply chain, British Armed Forces and prison services, and temporarily to those working in schools and councils, amongst others.
In order to reach families most in need across the region, Company Shop Southampton has also extended its membership to those in receipt of means tested benefits, including families with children receiving Free School Meals (FSM). All that eligible individuals and families need to do is sign up for a free membership card online ahead of the store opening.
Alongside welcoming thousands of new members to the Group, in a pledge to help them ‘shop good, feel good and do good’, Company Shop is also encouraging local manufacturers, retailers and brands to get in touch if they are looking for sustainable surplus solutions for their products.
